Writers on Writing at WICE - Paris
An Evening with Thirza Vallois
16 November 2006"Why write about Paris?", I am often asked. "What made you start? What made it happen?" There is no straightforward answer. My relationship with Paris was not a straightforward "love affair", as those who've read my books might assume, but a love-and-hate passion, full of joys and just as many frustrations. I simply had to figure this out. I walked every bit of Paris, stepping into all the possible courtyards, until my feet begged for mercy. I became the woman flaneuse of modern times, hanging out there, observing, taking in and also spending countless hours researching in libraries. My books are the result and sum of decades of involvement with Paris, recorded for the pleasure of sharing my findings with the Parisophile reader, and for the equally rewarding pleasure provided by the sheer act of writing.
The National Arts Club/New York City
"The speaker was fantastic, with tremendous preparation and brilliant arrangement."Amy B. Ellzey, Director International Programs, Pepperdine University, Malibu, California 90263
"Mrs Vallois was such an inspiration and enthusiastic speaker that not only was each student in the audience enraptured, but many of those students then tried to figure out how they could stay longer or develop a career in Paris. In Ms Vallois you will find a fascinating speaker who is very versatile and personable."International Women's Club
"The lecture illustrated with a slide show, was a wonderful excursion through the streets of Paris, by this lover of this city with amazing depth and insights..."L Club (International Professional Women's Club) / UK section
"Very many thanks for a lively and stimulating address to Club L last Wednesday. The enthusiastic reaction of those who attended told you how well it was received. The excursion that you led to Montmartre was superb. Every time I have met up or spoken with anyone who was with you that day, it was the main topic of conversation."West London Synagogue of British Jews
"Our thanks for a splendid opening to the treasures of Paris. Like Pygmalion we could have happily gone on all night You made us all want to book up for a trip to Paris straight away!"Partial List of Previous Lectures & Book Signings
